(As he fought back tears, holding the trophy with Virat Kohli by his side)
“This… this is for every single Indian fan who never stopped believing in us. For all the kids who dream of playing for India one day. For my teammatesyou guys are warriors. For the support staff, who worked day and night behind the scenes. And for my family& especially my daughter, who asked me before I left, Papa, will you bring the cup home this time?
Ive waited 17 years for this moment. Weve lost semifinals, finals, close games& but today, we refused to lose. This team has so much heart. Look at Virathes been a champion for 15 years, but today, he played like it was his first game. Thats the spirit of Indian cricket.
To all the criticsthank you. Your doubt gave us fire. And to the fans in Barbados and back home& WE LOVE YOU! This trophy is yours as much as ours.”
